Enjoying the Mountains in the Austrian Alps
Hikers find an experience of a special kind here: the Dolomites to the south, the Hochstein to the west and the Schober Group to the north offer a hiking experience for practiced mountain hikers as well as for families and senior citizens!
The Dolomites to the south of Lienz offer a wonderful hiking region with several places to stay overnight on tours lasting several days. Climbers find a variety of tours here of all degrees of difficulty, as well as diverse outcrops for good climbers.
The Hochstein rises to the west of the Dolomite city. It is a family hiking area that one can also explore in summer with the help of the two chairlifts. The pet zoo is especially popular and is to be found at the first section station of the Hochstein Mountain Railway. To the north are the foothills of the Hohe Tauern National Park that offer summit tours to above 3,000m. A cabin railway brings hikers up to the Zettersfeld, one continues with a four-seat chairlift to an altitude of 2,280m. Here is the optimum starting point for marvellous hikes and demanding summit tours.
