Old Town Celebrations
The Lienz Old Town celebrations are the next highlight in the events’ calendar. The relationship to the homeland and age-old customs and traditions are essential factors of the Old Town celebrations, which will be impressively proved by countless dance and music groups and local gastronomes.

Dolomite Man
The most important sporting event in summer is definitely the Red Bull Dolomite Man. Many consider this competition in the Lienz Dolomites to be among the toughest adventures that are offered today. A team comprising a mountain runner, a paraglider, a canoeist and a mountain biker battle as a relay team against steep mountains, unpredictable winds, alpine white-water and breakneck downhill routes. The competition always takes place at the beginning of September in the surrounding area of Lienz. The massive Lienz Dolomites serve as a backdrop with their white-water rivers and the famous and feared H2000 World Cup downhill ski run. The field of participants is limited to 110 teams, and is sold out every year.

Giro d’Italia
The first highlight is already at the end of May: the Giro d’Italia leads the stars again to East Tyrol. From Agordo (BE) via Cortina and the Puster Valley High Road, the teams cycle this year into Lienz, the capital city of East Tyrol. The start of the 17th stage takes place the next day in Lienz and promises to be no less attractive.

Summer Concerts
Open air concerts take place several times weekly in summer on Lienz’s main square. Whether to hear traditional concerts given by local brass bands, appearances by groups of folk dancers or performances by various other bands, visitors from near and far are lured to the city centre of Lienz and the countless cafe terraces. “Olala” Street Festival
An entire week in July in Lienz is given over to the “Olala” – the international street festival. Famous international street artists show their ability around the clock at various venues. Olala offers more than just popular clowning entertainment, and is no more to be removed from the hearts and minds of the people of East Tyrol as little as from the summer festival calendar, for which reason the festival is now famous far beyond our borders.
