Welcome to Climbing Paradise

Climbing in the Lienz Dolomites

Based on total population, Lienz boasts more climbers than most other towns. It's no surprise then that this is the perfect place for climbing enjoyment - mountains, practice climbing areas, and via ferrata routes are right at your doorstep.

The Lienz Dolomites are limestone mountains that feature a variety of difficulty levels. 4 large practice climbing areas are reachable by car from Lienz:

  • Gamsklapf climbing area – 20 routes, up to 7c
  • Dolomitenhütte climbing area – over 100 routes, up to 8a
  • Kreithof climbing area – over 110 routes, up to 8a
  • Salzsteig Rauchkofel climbing area - ca. 10 routes, up to 8a

In summer and with good weather, these climbing areas are the No. 1 choice for people looking for fun on the vertical axis! You should come equipped with prior experience and the necessary gear.

Indoor Climbing in Eastern Tyrol

For your first training sessions, as a refresher, or if the weather is not cooperating (which hardly ever occurs in Austria's sunniest town), a small indoor climbing center is available in Lienz.

Harness buckled, boots laced up, hands dusted off in the chalk bag - now it's time to head to the rocks: Climbing in Eastern Tyrol is not just a sport, for many it is an attitude towards life itself. Useful tips, chats with others who share your passion, and countless challenges up on the wall are all part of the fun.

In a town of "rock jocks" like Lienz, in almost every sports store you will find harnesses, boots, carabiners, and everything else you need for a safe climbing experience in Eastern Tyrol. Some of these shops are located right in the town center, putting them only a few steps away from your Hotel Traube.
